These Old Fashioned Baked Cinnamon Sugar Donuts are so easy to whip up and they make the perfect no-guilt treat!
Donuts are always a favorite treat to enjoy in our home. And there’s absolutely nothing better than a fresh, warm donut with a hot cup of coffee!
These baked donuts are a style of cake donuts that are baked instead of fried. Don’t let the baking part disappoint you though! The donuts turn out so soft and tender if not over-baked and they are much easier to make than frying! I avoid frying foods as much as possible in our home. One of the reasons is the mess that’s left to deal with. 😉 Nope, not a fan!
This donut requires very simple ingredients and a few easy steps and these donuts are hot out of the oven in less than 20 minutes!
- Don’t overmix. If you want tender and fluffy donuts make sure you only mix as little as possible. Over-mixing the batter will make the donuts tough.
- Use a piping bag to fill your mold. It’s easier to fill the molds this way and it will give your donuts a much cleaner look.
- Oil the donut mold. Oiling the mold is a MUST! It will make it much easier to remove the donuts and clean the molds.
I really hope you enjoy this donuts recipe! It’s such a classic flavor, you just can’t go wrong!
Yield: 12 donuts
INGREDIENTS
- 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup sour cream or plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup light tasting cup oil (I use Bertolli Extra Light Taste Olive Oil)
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Cinnamon Sugar Topping
- 1 1/3 cups granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
INSTRUCTIONS
Donuts
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Grease a donut pan and set aside.
- In a large bowl, add flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt to a and whisk them together until they’re combined.
- In a separate bowl, combine the egg, sour cream, oil, milk, and vanilla and mix it just until combined. Carefully dump the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Using a rubber spatula, fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until a batter begins to form and the flour begins to disappear. (Be careful not to over-mix as this will make the donuts tough and dry.)
- Spoon or pipe the batter into your molds and fill them 3/4 of the way to the top of the molds. Bake for 10 minutes. Allow to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before coating with cinnamon sugar.
- Allow to cool just slightly before dipping in the cinnamon sugar topping.
Cinnamon Sugar
- Melt the butter for the topping and set aside.
- In a bowl, combine the cinnamon and sugar.
- Dip each donut lightly in the melted butter then roll in cinnamon and sugar.
- Best served immediately. Enjoy! 🙂
