Frozen Hot Chocolate is the perfect hot-weather treat, made with real melted chocolate, hot chocolate powder, milk and crushed ice and finished off with whipped cream!
When we road-trip to Michigan for our summer family vacations, we always make a few stops at Dunkin Donuts along the way. I either have their frozen chai or frozen hot chocolate and I never once thought about making it at home! DUH! Since we got hit with a heat wave the last few days I haven’t been able to get rid of my craving for a frozen hot chocolate. 😉 After a few tries, the consistency and taste is irresistible!
My boys LOVE hot chocolate! Don’t we all enjoy the cozy, rich and creamy taste of a good cup of hot chocolate during our frigid Canadian winters? 😉 But when it’s blistering hot outside, all you need is 10 minutes and you get this incredibly easy and perfectly icy cold drink!
Yield: 4 servings
INGREDIENTS
- 5 ounces good quality milk chocolate, chopped
- 3 teaspoons hot chocolate powder
- 1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 3 cups ice cubes
- Whipped Cream
- Chocolate syrup
- Chocolate shavings, optional
INSTRUCTIONS
- Place the cups you’ll be using for your frozen hot chocolate in the freezer to chill. This is completely optional but it keeps the drink icy cold for longer.
- Melt the chocolate over medium heat in a small saucepan or in 30 second intervals, in the microwave, stirring between each time . Mix in the hot chocolate powder and sugar, stirring until well blended.
- Slowly add in the milk, stirring until smooth.
- In a blender, add the ice and the chocolate mixture. Blend on high speed until smooth.
- Take your cups out of the freezer and pour the frozen hot chocolate into each cup.
- Top with whipped cream, chocolate syrup and chocolate shavings.
- Serve immediately.

June 4, 2021Amy, reading the recipe it says “hot chocolate powder”. I want to be sure that it isn’t cocoa powder before I attempt this frozen chocolate drink.
It looks yummy and I’m not even a chocolate fan. 👩🏻🍳
Thank you for sharing.
